Julien worked at IREC between 2007 and 2010, conducting a PhD about ecology of pallid harriers Circus macrourus in Kazakhstan. The thesis was titled Integrating foraging strategies, spatial movement patterns and reproductive success: implication for the conservation of sympatric avian predators, and was supervised by Beatriz Arroyo and François Mougeot (EEZA-CSIC).
