I started my research career committed to wildlife conservation, which is increasingly threatened by human activities. My studies have addressed conservation issues in species of agricultural landscapes mainly from behavioural ecology and population dynamics. Although my research has focused on how ecological mechanisms influence population regulation and spatial dynamics, I am also interested on how we can incorporate evolutionary dynamics in order to improve predictions on the response of declining populations and develop more effective conservation strategies.

To date, my research lines have focused on:

  • The spatial distribution, habitat selection, and the impacts of agricultural activities on small mammals.
  • The role of biotic interactions (interspecific competition and conspecific attraction) as a driver of change in ecological niche, habitat use, and spatial distribution of steppe birds (the little bustard and the great bustard).
  • The effects of hunting and road traffic on the physiological and behavioural response of threatened species (the little bustard and the pin-tailed sandgrouse).
  • Variation on the honesty of secondary sexual traits induced by the social context.
  • The effect of agri-environmental schemes on the functional response of the community of birds inhabiting open landscapes.
